Jim Lambie's new work, Metal Urbain, at The Modern Institute is so frrrrrickin exquisite!! I've been three times so far, definitely one of my favourites at Glasgow International.. And the new Modern Institute space is beautiful too, well worth a visit. Lambie's work just gets better and better. I feel like this exhibition space should be used to hold a wee chilled out rave on a sunny afternoon or something, its such a happy space, and with a bit of bouncy techno and some happy people, it would be a delight :)

So much of the work I am now looking at is making me want to create some sort of new experience, a new sensation that encompasses beauty and pleasure, and has a hold on the viewer.. Something sort of hypnotic, that could potentially put us in a dream-like state. How I'm gonna pull this one off i've no idea! Thank god we still have a few weeks to figure it out!

ernesto neto - yummy

Ernesto Neto is possibly my favourite artist of all time... And I am still yet to experience the delights of his sculpture installations! I can imagine his work taking me somewhere I have never been before, full of exploration and sensation. Neto's installations offer an overwhelming adventure for the human senses - visually fantastic pieces that you are able to explore, touch, walk on, roll on, lie on, rub yourself against or whatever. I really hope he exhibits in the UK sometime soon. He also uses spices/herbs in his works which allow you to open up more than just your eyes to his work. I can only imagine what it must be like to be in these vast spaces alongside his work... I could quite happily post a hundred images of neto's work on here, but i won't.. Here are some of my favourites, enjoy.

I'm thinking a lot about anish kapoor, or rather, the work of anish kapoor. He's a bit too old for me you see... His work is a lot about experience, the experience between the viewer and the work, and this is something I am hoping to look into a lot more throughout my research.

can beauty be a sensation?

After having used pearls for our last project, i seem to have gained an endless fascination with their beauty and the symbolic meanings associated with them. In Greek mythology, the pearl is linked to Aphrodite, who is the Goddess of Love, Beauty and Sexuality, which has led me think about the relationship between love and beauty, things which, in my opinion, are dependent on one another. But what is the difference between love and beauty? I see beautiful things all the time, yet it doesn't mean I love them, so for us to truly love, we must be able to see the beauty within - something which contradicts that good old saying that, 'beauty is skin deep.' Love is an experience, a sensation, something we feel, so what is this beauty that we speak of? What I want to understand is if it is possible to make beauty a sensation? Something we feel? Is it possible to create a piece of work so beautiful, that it alters our state of mind, that could potentially take us somewhere within our body and mind that is as strong as the sensation of love? This sounds ambitious, if a little crazy, but I like a challenge :)
