Emily Jacir

For Emily Jacir's 'From Texas With Love' 2002, she asked Palestinians what music they would choose if they could drive non stop across their country for one hour. She compiled their suggestions on a soundtrack, and played it during an uninterupted journey across Texas. The resulting film is a view through the car's windscreen accompanied by Jacir's compilation. I loved this piece at GOMA, (i think it might still be there, top floor) I thought it was really lovely to use music within her piece, and the piece actually allows the viewer to choose what song they would like to hear while watching the film.. I felt overwhelming freedom within this work, it was really thought provoking, and for those moments i sat there, engaged in the film and the music, i was content, and I was grateful.
